Naval history

Barne Barton, Plymouth began life as accommodation for Royal Naval personnel and families working in HMNB Devonport and the warships stationed there. The homes are now well past their useful life, are difficult to heat and very unpopular. Clarion secured planning permission to build 204 new homes and a new community building at the end of 2022.

Resident led

The regeneration of Barne Baron has been underpinned by the drive and determination of the residents who live there. The Resident’s Steering Group has been highly effective in keeping this exceptionally challenging and complicated project alive. They now see all that hard work paying off.
Along the way, Barne Barton became the first neighbourhood in the UK to achieve Building with Nature accreditation.

The project has already won two prestigious design awards, for Urban Design and Landscaping at the Landscape Institute Awards 2018, and at the 2021 National Housing Design Awards.
